Magic
Magic on Cerilia is governed by different rules, and the classes of arcane spellcasters are different.
Magic is composed of 3 types: Lesser Magic, True Magic, and Realm Magic.
Lesser Magic: The schools of Divination and Illusion fall into this category. With sufficient time and training, any one is able to master Lesser Magic. Bards and Magicians use Lesser Magic only.
True Magic: All the remaining schools are considered to be True Magic. True Magic is rare and feared, and only those with a bloodline and/or elven blood (i.e. elves or half-elves). Users of True Magic are considered regular wizards (see the Player Handbook for details), and can specialize, although not in Illusion or Divination.
Realm Magic: Only regents can wield Realm Magic and tap the required energy from the land, through the use of Magical Sources (see Holdings, in the Rules section). Realm Magic creates powerful dweomers that affect a whole province, and are close to wish spells. Sources are usually linked by Ley Lines, which are magical lines forged to tap multiple sources from one location.
New Class: The Magician.
The Magician is a special arcane spellcaster who masters the use of Lesser Magic. While some cannot be True Mages - because they lack the blood required - some chose to be Magicians, favoring wondrous illusions and powerful divinations to more devastating spells. This is especially true in regions where magic is greatly feared and/or banned. For game mechanics, Magicians are considered specialist wizards in both Illusion and Divination (receiving therefore the bonus spell - one only, either divination or illusion -, and the Spellcraft proficiency bonus), and can only cast spells from other schools (including Universal) from 1st and 2nd levels. To offset those penalties, Magicians receive one bonus feat at first level (which must be either a metamagic or an item creation feat), and receive Hide, Move Silently, Decipher Script, and Forgery as class skills. They receive 4+Int bonus proficiency points per level.
Bards use lesser magic only (that is, they can only cast spells from the Illusion or the Divination schools). However, those of elven blood (elves or half-elves) know some rare songs that duplicates the effect of Enchantment spells.
Unless otherwise specified, rules function as per the Player Handbook.
