The Races of Cerilia

Humans: there are 6 different sub-races of Humans, and each of those revered one ancient God, and has been named after it.

Anuireans: They revered Anduiras, God of Courage, from the ancient pantheon. They conquered most of the continent, although they are now confined to the Western and Southwestern part of the continent. They have medium to light complexion, and their technology is equivalent to Renaissance. They favor heavy armor, and their longbowmen are famous all over the continent. Michael Roele is probably the most famous Anuirean, and the only non-awnshegh scion carrying a true bloodline. However, he has been killed by The Gorgon, the most powerful awnshegh, years ago. Their region is called Anuire.

Brecht: They revered Brenna, goddess of Trade and Luck, from the ancient pantheon. They live in the internal curve of the U (center North), and are the most famous sailors. They are very oriented toward the commerce, and are not very religious. They favor light weapons and armor, and have Renaissance-equivalent technology. They have a Germanic language, and are named accordingly. They look like medieval Italians or Dutch. Their region is called Brechtur.

Khinasi (Basarjis): They revered Basaia, goddess of the Sun and Magic, from the ancient pantheon. They are an Arabic people, devoted to the arts and knowledge. They live in Khinasi, a region where the scourging sun and the extreme climatic conditions make life harsh. Semi-nomadic tribes roams the deserts, while great palaces and beautiful places of knowledge sit in marvelous cities. They have strict rules about magic, and every single arcane spellcaster has to swear oath of fealty to the Temple of Ruornil. Their region is named Khinasi.

Rjuven: They revered Reynir, god of Nature, and are still very nature-oriented. Organized in Clans, the Rjuvens are a tough people, and the druids (actually, priests of Erik, see Religion for details) hold a status of power and influence every Clan. Home to the mystical Clan of the Shapeshifters, the region of Rjurik in located in the Northwestern branch of the U. The Rjuvens look like highlanders, favors kilts and heavy weapons. The dreaded Claymore come from the Rjurik Highlands. They have a Dark Ages equivalent culture.

Masetian: They revered Masela, goddess of the Sea. They were completely extinguished after the cataclysm of Mount Deismar, although a few of them are rumored to be enslaved by The Serpent, a powerful awnshegh. They were exceptional sailors, and their galley were the swiftest of all Cerilia. They were of Renaissance equivalent culture, and they had very Egyptian-like traits.

Vos: Those barbarian humans used to revere Vorynn as the god of Magic, before Azrai corrupted them and turn them against the other human factions. The fought on Azrai's side at Deismar, and then changed their mind to fight their former lord. They have a primitive culture, turned toward war and battle. They revere might and brute force among everything else. They women have a very low status in Vosgaard, and they have to prove themselves through various warlike deeds to gain status and recognition. Vosgaard is the home of the feared Varsks, a furred lizard of exceptional size and strength, used as mounts by the war chieftains, called tsaveros. They revere the only two evil gods of Cerilia, Belinik and Kriesha, who are united under the Temple of Might (see Religion for details).

Elves: Elves on Cerilia are rare, and they barely leave their loved forests. They have a dark complexion, and favor bows and especially swords. They have a particular hatred against humans, since when the humans settled Cerilia prior to the cataclysm, they deforested great parts of the lands, against the warnings of the Sidheliens (other name for elves). The most famous elf is probably Rhuobbe Manslayer, a powerful awnshegh that didn't switch sides to remain faithful to Azrai at Mount Deismar. Rhuobbe governs a small elven domain in Anuire, and is rumored to feel the presence of any humans stepping in his realm. His consumed hatred for the non Sidheliens is legendary. Elves on Cerilia are immortal, and immune to aging effects (see Rules for details). Aquatic elves do exist, but are very, very rare.

Half-elves: Half-elves are even rarer than Elves, as only a few Humans gain acceptance among the elven society. They are consider Sidheliens by the elves, and often acts as diplomats between the two people, when those are ready to cooperate.

Dwarves: Dwarves are very reclusive, but otherwise are similar to dwarves in other worlds. They tend to wear their beards short, and are skilled crossbowmen. They live far underground, and have only 3 kingdoms of their own: Baruk-Azik, the most powerful one, Khurin-Azur, the only kingdom to maintain a true hereditary monarchy, and Mur-Kilad, a dwarven province vassal to The Gorgon.  Other small communities of dwarves do exist, scattered around Cerilia, but don't consist in really notable domains.

Halflings: Halflings on Cerilia are a mystery. The small-people has only one full halfling province, known as The Burrows. Other small communities are present in major cities, where they mostly hold guild holdings and remain confined in the trade areas. They are rumored to come from the Shadow World, and therefore are rumored to wield some strange powers, although the existence of such powers has not be proven yet.

Goblins: Goblins in Cerilia are a very powerful race. The Goblin term is generic, standing for regular Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Bugbears. There are various goblin kingdom, which are more-or-less united clans and tribes. The goblin kingdom of Thurazor in Anuire holds thousands of different tribes, and the King has troubles gathering them for a common war.

Orogs: Orogs are a threat to the dwarves. As underground dwellers, their war with the dwarves has been lasting for ever. They are very organized, and have a very primitive government: the strong rules, the weak obeys. A powerful leader is rumored to organize the orogs on Cerilia, and the presence of the awnshegh Ghuralli in the Giantdowns kingdom might be a support to this theory.

Gnolls: Gnolls have only two known realms: the Black Spear Tribes in Khinasi, where the gnolls serve a powerful wizard named el-Sheghul, and the Gnoll Fells in Vosgaard, where the priest-king Yeenoghu rules with an iron fist. Otherwise, gnolls generally assume a predatory method of ruling. The Brass Fur Tribe in Muden is a good example of a uncommonly well-led gnoll tribe.

Other Humanoids: Trolls, Giants, and other humanoids maintain little if any social structure. They tend to favor the "strongest will rule" method of kingship.
